Central Market in Kuala Lumpur – a Strange Tale

Central Market in Kuala Lumpur – a Strange Tale

Central Market (or commonly known by the locals as Pasar Seni) is the most iconic and most well known place in Kuala Lumpur, maybe in Malaysia. It was founded in 1888 and it represents all ethnic and racial heritages in the country. Consisting of stalls that sell handicrafts and souvenirs which including eating stalls.

Mina was working as an assistant for a stall in Central Market in down town Kuala Lumpur. One day after work, Mina and Pam (who works at a nearby stall) were waiting at the eating stall for the downpour from the rain to stop. It was virtually impossible to catch the bus when it rains so heavily.

As they were sitting at the eating stall, Mina noticed a couple, with their back turned from them, were seated at the far end of the eating stall. The young teen couple, they had school uniforms on, were seated closed together. At the same time, Mina and Pam were busy chatting to each other and both were busy sms-ing from their mobile phones.

When finally the rain has slowed down, both Mina and Pam were tied-up packing their handbags and umbrellas when Mina realized that the couple were also leaving. When the couple turned and walk away Mina grasp something was not right as they seem to walking in a weird dreamlike posture.

Cendol Seller during Hungry Ghost Month

Cendol Seller during Hungry Ghost Month

A Cendo street seller on Hungry Ghost Month meets an unforgettable and frightening encounter with a ghost.
Kalimuthu is  Cendol street vendor for over 25 years and he travels to different places in Butterworth in Penang where he sells to his take-away customers. Kalimuthu makes cendol strips by personally by hand (actually by his wife… ha!ha!) and together with the red beans, sweet corn, shaved iced and of course with ‘gula melaka’(yeah!), it provides a unique flavor to the cendol which he sells to his customers.

A Bowl of Cendol

On that particular evening, he was in a field around Assumption school where some school boys had finished with the football game and after the game, some of them had gather to drink from his stall. They were gathered drinking, chatting busily about the game and it was getting late when they left.

Kalimuthu was gathering the used plastic bowls and spoons when he noticed a small boy (around 7 to 8 years old) standing faced to the back of Kalimuthu. The other boys who were drinking were around 14 to 15 years and this boy was much younger. Thinking it must be a younger brother to one of the boys, he asked “Are you done?” while clearing the used bowls and spoons.

Ghost at Convent School Chapel

Ghost at Convent School Chapel
This occurred when Sandra Choi was at 13 years old and living at home in Taiping, Perak. She was at the time studying at the Convent in down town in Taiping. On that day, Sandra and Sui Leng (her best friend) had finished their morning session in school. They had eaten their lunch and were waiting for the time for their afternoon school activity to begin.

Feeling bored, they on a whim decided the visit the chapel in the back of the Convent. It was secluded or private place for the nuns or “sisters” which also house the nuns’ residence and strictly forbidden among the students.

The Chapel in the Convent
The girls secretly made their way to the chapel at the back of the Convent school and opened the door. Inside the chapel, the sunlight from the coloured window glass panes and there were rows of flickering candles provided a gloomy picture of the scene.

A wooden Pew at the Chapel
As the girls made their way among the pews, the wooden benches were arranged in rows facing the altar, when Sui Leng gestured wildly to Sandra not to make any noise. At the back of the pew was a nun who was praying silently. Turning back, the girls suddenly fell and was sent sprawling and …Whoosh!....in a split second, the nun was standing over the fallen girls. The really weird part of this was that nun had no facial features…no eyebrows, eyes, nose or mouth!!! Sandra and Sui Leng were wailing and howling as they rushed out as fast as their legs will take them.
Although both Sandra and Sui Leng got into trouble with the teachers and the nuns which also dismissed any idea or notion of ghostly apparition (as expected)…..both girls were absolutely adamant that they saw the ghostly nun at the chapel.
