Malaysian Ghost Stories 2

Malaysian Ghost Stories 2

Millions of Malaysians from all walks of life have encountered unexpected experiences in the world of the supernatural. I will share two strange and spine chilling stories of such experiences in their normal everyday life.

Teoh work as a vegetable seller at a wet market and his wife is a clerk at a company. Teoh’s father-in-law was in a hospital and was advised by the doctors to bring him better be brought home. They said that due to the serious sickness he would rather be home when he passes away.

When Teoh got back from work he cooked plain porridge for his father-in-law and waited for him to wake up. His wife, Sooi Ling, had to work late that night as she had some work to finish up.

Teoh sat on a plastic chair while waiting for his father-in-law to wake up to eat his porridge. While waiting, Teoh almost dozed off when he saw the old man was up and he was talking to someone – but there was no one there except for Teoh. The old man was excited and he raised his hand as if he was taking and eating porridge, all the time he was busy chit chatting with someone.

After a while, Teoh’s father-in-law closed his eyes and went finally went back to his bed. Teoh was a bit puzzled but did not think too much of it. They found out the next day that the old man passed away. Teoh often wondered whether his father-in-law saw something or someone that night.

Genting Bus Crash during Hungry Ghosts Festival!

Genting Bus Crash during Hungry Ghosts Festival!

The worst motor accident in Malaysia’s history happened during the Hungry Ghosts Festival. Were the supernatural souls from the afterworld involved?

“37 killed, 16 injured in Malaysia’s worst accident,” as reported by the mainstream and the internet media. The ill-fated bus was on the Genting up-downhill road on the privately owned by Genting Malaysia Berhad.

The Genting Sempah road is infamous for a string of mysterious incidents  and I have written about it previously in “Apparitions at Genting Sempah-Genting Highlands Highway” and “Ghost Sightings at Genting Sempah, Selangor”.

In addition the bus crash occurred during Hungry Ghosts Month which falls on August 7 and September 4. Taoists believe that the ghosts are opened from hell where the souls can roam the earth for a month.

Central Market in Kuala Lumpur – a Strange Tale

Central Market in Kuala Lumpur – a Strange Tale

Central Market (or commonly known by the locals as Pasar Seni) is the most iconic and most well known place in Kuala Lumpur, maybe in Malaysia. It was founded in 1888 and it represents all ethnic and racial heritages in the country. Consisting of stalls that sell handicrafts and souvenirs which including eating stalls.

Mina was working as an assistant for a stall in Central Market in down town Kuala Lumpur. One day after work, Mina and Pam (who works at a nearby stall) were waiting at the eating stall for the downpour from the rain to stop. It was virtually impossible to catch the bus when it rains so heavily.

As they were sitting at the eating stall, Mina noticed a couple, with their back turned from them, were seated at the far end of the eating stall. The young teen couple, they had school uniforms on, were seated closed together. At the same time, Mina and Pam were busy chatting to each other and both were busy sms-ing from their mobile phones.

When finally the rain has slowed down, both Mina and Pam were tied-up packing their handbags and umbrellas when Mina realized that the couple were also leaving. When the couple turned and walk away Mina grasp something was not right as they seem to walking in a weird dreamlike posture.

Past Memories of a Chinese New Village

Past Memories of a Chinese New Village

Mrs Lai have many remarkable happy, sad and eerie stories about living in the 1960s in a Chinese New Village in Tanjung Malim, Selangor.

Her parents were rubber tappers and she lived with 4 other siblings in New Village at Tanjung Malim in Selangor. The like other people they were extremely poor but live a blissful life of swimming in rivers, climbing trees and stealing fruits for the kids at that time.

A Typical Chinese New Village

An incident happened when she was about 10 - 11 years old a long time ago, when she was with her brother and they were walking back to their home. It was late evening at the time and they were rushing back as their mother would give them hell for coming back so late.

Walking in the gravel road they saw three people (she guess it must be a father, wife and a young boy) walking behind them. When they were slightly surprised when the family suddenly walked in a small footpath filled with over grown lalangs (long coarse weeds) away from the gravel road. She did want to be a ‘kaypoh’ (busybody) so did say anything but hurriedly along the narrow road.

As they walked past the family in different direction they noticed something odd about their walk. As if they slightly were like gliding among the tall lalangs. As they were busy walking they casually looked again at the family which was much further away they suddenly realize the reasons the difference of walking. The family, the father, mother and the young boy, did not have legs!..... She looked at her brother shocked and in disbelief…screaming and blabbering they took off for their lives and both of them ran all the way back to their house.

Unnatural Tales from a Taxi Driver

Unnatural Tales from a Taxi Driver

A Public Cab taxi driver’s own personal experiences with the world of supernatural.

During a recent trip to KLIA, I manage to talk with Haj. Yusof, the taxi driver, about his personal experiences about the supernatural. Haj. Yusof is a over 50 year old and is a jovial man, who work as a taxi driver for Public Cab in mostly Klang Valley in Malaysia. Other than the drivers from Public Cab, he also have friends from rival companies like Radio Taxi, Sunlight, Comfort etc. Like he said, “Everybody has to make a living”.

Public Cab in Malaysia

Haj. Yusof says there seem to be a lot of stories from taxi drivers and ordinary people concerning mostly the tragedy of the Highland Towers. The Highland Towers collapsed at Taman Hillview in Selangor in 1993 where 48 people were killed – and stories and tales of strange and eerie apparitions in the vicinity were reported.

However, Haj. Yusof is reluctant of going to the places like Bukit Antarabangsa, Ampang etc not just because of the stories but he seen personally seen strange and weird things from that area. One night after the tragedy, he was around the area in residential part of Ampang, where he saw a man looking for a cab. The night was dark and there was a slight fog in the night air and he drove slightly past the spot where the man was waiting.

Paranormal Incident at Universiti Sains Malaysia

Paranormal Incident at Universiti Sains Malaysia

Three girls faced a paranormal incident during a night out at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang.
Kavitha, Rosie and Vickki are students at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) at the main campus in the state of Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. USM was established in 1969 and located at the former Minden Barracks of the British Far East Command.

They were attending a rehearsal at night for a play (I cannot remember maybe it was Shakespeare) on campus. After the rehearsal, the three of them was walking back from the campus and it was quiet dark night with the lamp which was spaced far apart posts providing the lights on the campus. Kavitha and Vickki was walking with Rosie lagging behind. The two girls turned back and asked Rosie to walk faster. When they turned back impatiently when they notice that Rosie was walking behind them and she was looking strangely at something behind her.

Kavitha and Vickki then shouted at Rosie to keep up with them as Rosie seemed to be falling behind them. Rosie suddenly shouted in a terrified voice at the two girls, “Run…just run!” Both of the girls together with Rosie just took off thinking it must be snatch thieves or even a rapist.

Then must have ran over a half kilometer before they reached the guard house. They were panting heavily and completely out of breath and when they have recovered sufficiently they asked her what was about.
“You meant you didn’t see them?” said a still panting Rosie to her two friends. Rosie then told them that she saw an older gentleman who was on the parked wooden bench smoking a pipe and he seemed to be lost in thoughts. Then suddenly he walked away on the same foot path they were on.

Rukun Tetangga’s Member Eerie Encounters

Rukun Tetangga’s Member Eerie Encounters
A Rukun Tetangga member’s work hard to keep the local community and neighbourhood safe but also encounters with the supernatural and the afterlife.

Encik Mohktar has been part of the Rukun Tetangga (Neighbourhood Watch) voluntary program by the Government for over 30 years. He has retired now, where he was previously working in a Post Office and he lives in a flat with his wife and two daughters.

A Rukun Tetangga Team at Work

He says that the voluntary work has been mostly dull and tedious but he personally caught thieves and burglars which makes it worthwhile. He also faced numerous dogs of many sizes and types while patrolling the neighbourhood.

He however has seen many situations that cannot be normal when his ‘bulu roma naik’ (goosebumps) and he will normal say his prayers. He has recounted some of the encounters that he has experience.
When he and his friend were at their patrol during the late nights, he saw under the moonlight something whitish (like wearing a cloak) flying in the night sky. The apparition was flying in a zig-zag fashion before losing the sight of the apparition under the trees!

Eerie Incident at Reflexology Centre

Eerie Incident at Reflexology Centre
Reflexology Centres are very popular (especially with males) that instead of a relaxing massage after a hard day’s work, it is related about the seamy and sexual activities of that trade. However, this is a story about the unnatural and ghostly encounters in a Reflexology centre.

Brenda Shi works in a Reflexology centre in town of Butterworth. Butterworth is off to the island of Penang and is located at the bottom of peninsula Malaysia. She lives with 5 other girls in the centre in the top floor of the centre and works on bottom at the 1st floor.

Map of the town of Butterworth in Malaysia

On many nights, after work, she and the rest of girls have heard a mournful crying from a small kid. The cries will occur continue throughout the nights. As they stay on the top floor of a shoplot, they were puzzled about the cries. When during the next day, the girls asked their neighbours, they confirmed hearing the tearful cries and weeping from a child. However, they adamantly said that do not anybody around there that have a kid!

Ghostly Shadows

Ghostly Shadows
The brothers were having a good time at their uncle’s condominium until they saw looming spooky shadows on the walls.

Azmien and his brother together with his parents visited his uncle’s condominium at Kota Kinabalu in the state of Sabah. It was a weekend and they spent the whole weekend at his uncle’s place.

While his parents were busy talking with his uncle, Azmien and his brother went down to the playground near to his uncle’s condominium. Their mother came to the playground to remind them to go for their showers as it was getting late. Azmien and his brother were reluctantly packing their toys, they heard the sound of voices of several kids fighting and laughing and playing. It was nearly 7 pm and they looked about the playground but they did not see any kids. Azmien’s brother looked puzzled but Azmien decided that the kids must be around and decided to back to their uncle’s condominium as it was getting late.

Life as a Hospital Technician

Life as a Hospital Technician
Working as a Hospital Technician, Subramaniam realizes it is not the most sought after job but to him it is one of the most important in terms of saving lives and getting used to death. Over the years, he has experience numerous real-life and true accounts of unnatural and unexplained incidents.
Subramaniam  had worked as a government Hospital Technician for more than 23 years in numerous Government hospitals. Unfortunately he refused to name the hospitals that he has worked partly due to confidentially reasons.

A General Hospital in Malaysia
According to Subramaniam, all hospitals have a particular lift or elevator which leads from the hospital wards to the mortuary. People in this lift generally feel extreme unease, a sense of something is terribly wrong. This is quite common and understandable.
He has gotten used to strange sounds from the restrooms and toilets, people crying at night etc after so many years as a Hospital Technician. However he recalls 2 personal incidents which stand in his mind.

The first incident, when at certain nights, a ghostly vision of nurses were seen walking together, as if rushing off (dressed in old uniform). He has been advised, when he first started out, that such appearance of apparitions were common. He was told that people should carry on with their work and pretend that the apparitions did not exist.

In another case, during heavy thunderstorms a boy was seen crying at a certain ward. The ghostly boy would squat and wail continuously.
Note : Some believe that residual or left over energy from past memories.
“They were once humans”, he declared, “and everyone should leave them alone. Maybe with time, their memories will slowly fade away”.
