Pekililing Flats – haunted?

Pekililing Flats – haunted?

A girl recounts her childhood life in Pekililing Flats which were filled of bitter sweet memories at the same time of tragedies of the countless tenants in everyday lives. It is also of her personal experiences of the eerie and spooky events in the flats.
Pekililing flats is located at Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Pahang in Kuala Lumpur. It is also known also known as Tunku Abdul Rahman flats and it comprise of 11 blocks (A to L) each with 17 floors each. These units have up to 10 people cramped in each home to thousands of people who lived at the flats.
These flats of numerous ‘fire bombs’ (water filled with plastics), badminton games at the corridors etc were home to the kids, but it was also a place or shelter for drug addicts, the homeless, illegal activities and sleazy or unsavory characters.

Pamela Yip was a teenage girl when she was still living at the flats. She remembers the eerie feeling of walking to the lifts, the corridors between the individual units and the haunting darkness. She used to shrug off when she felt an inhuman touched her hand or shoulder but simply just walked away.

ATM Ghost

ATM Ghost

Two girls going to the ATM’s machine one night encountered an unexpected and horrifying sight.
As everybody knows that ATM (automatic teller machine) is the closest thing nowadays just by inserting a card we can make a cash withdrawal...provided you have the funds. Miss those days when you have to fill up the withdraw forms and line up at the counter and patiently wait for the bank tellers.

Jasmine Ooi lives with her parents and her sister, Annie, in Taman Molek in Johor. One night after dinner she kept put off going to the ATM until the TV series is over and it was nearly 11 pm. Having to work the next day and refusing his father’s offer for a temporary loan she finally decided to go to ATM near her house. As it was late her father offered to drive her and little sister, Annie, to a local branch of her bank.

An ATM machine

When they reached the nearby shops, the streetlamps were well lit but it was full of cars and their father had to double-parked his car. The two girls were strolling to the ATM which was located at the end of the shops.

When they arrived at the bank which houses the ATM they both noticed there was a lady with her back towards the two girls in the fully enclosed glassed panels enclosure. When the lady turned to walk out to the glass paneled, they were slightly surprised that the lady was not only wore a bright red dress but she was wearing a dark sunglasses. How strangely weird Jasmine thought silently about the lady’s attire.

National Service (NS) Trainees Chilling Incident

National Service (NS) Trainees Chilling Incident

3 NS trainees are horribly spooked when they are lost during the jungle segment of their training.

Recruitment of all 18 years Malaysians, both males and females, are chosen to be in the National Service (NS) after their SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examination. Those trainees are placed in camps throughout the country for a duration for a length of 3 months.

National Service (NS) Trainees in Malaysia

Zayd, Rashid and Weng are trainees and they have been selected to a Government camp in Sarawak. The three of them were assigned to a forest assignment and were terribly lost. (I have translated their conversation from Bahasa Malaysia to English…as best I can)

“Deep Shit!”, yelled Zayd when they realized that the three of them were absolutely lost somewhere in the jungle. The trainees were not allowed to use their handphones (surrendered to the Camp Commandant) and could not inform their supervisors that there were simply lost. As the sun was setting, it was nearly 6pm, and it was getting dark, they had no choice but look for help.

They decided that the three of them should go individually to go in different directions to look for help and report back in the same place. When Zayd got back first, he saw a very old lady slowly walking  near a thick and leafy footpath. Zayd quickly rushed to the old woman and panting heavily, said that they were lost. He noticed that the old woman seemed to be extremely old, with wrinkles and her face was shrunken with age. However the old woman only looked up at Zayd and smiled. Alamak! thought Zayd when he realized that either the old woman was mad or she doesn’t understand the language.

While this was going on, Rashid came back and muttered to Zayd, “Ayoh! Pretty girl…” Zayd was puzzled and confused about Rashid statement. Before Zayd could say further, Weng came back running saying heard that the trainers had found them…Weng abruptly stopped was shocked and stared at the old lady.

A night in Tambun Inn in Ipoh, Malaysia

A night in Tambun Inn in Ipoh, Malaysia

Tambun Inn has been listed as one of the Top 15 places of the most haunted in Malaysia. It is in fact (if I remember correctly, it is No. 6) of the most nightmarish and scary place in the whole country.

In fact I have written about the hotel (in another blog) about the events told my other readers and other clients of the hotel and their recollections of haunting and other ghastly ghost sightings.

Timbun Inn is a three-storey commercial building in the residential area of Ipoh in Jalan Tambun Ipoh near an old Chinese cemetery. It is about 3 km from the train station and 5 km from the airport.

Photo of Tambun Inn in Ipoh, Perak

Many accounts have been documented about ghosts wandering in the hotel, lights switching on and off, eerie whispers, shouts and screams from scary unknown entities. There is even a source that claim an elderly woman whose ghostly vision or image appear a road leading to the hotel.

George Hong as a client of the hotel has the normal complaints, like the karaoke was too noisy, the service and the housekeeping was too slow and there were no carpet on the floors. However George was a die-hard and avid amateur “ghost investigator” as such he was looking forward to visit Tambun Inn in Ipoh on work after the hearing the many ghostly supernatural incidents about the place.

Mysterious and Scary House

Mysterious and Scary House

“There is a ghost in every house” a friend of my father likes to say.

Sheila lives in a suburb in a link double-storey terrace in town down in Taiping, Perak. She is the only child and she stays with her parents. She work a tourist guide, as such, she has to wake up very early to get to work.

1st Ghostly Experience
One morning, Sheila was up very early and she must put her makeup on and dress, when she heard sound from the kitchen downstairs, like someone was busy boiling water and making breakfast. She thought it was a bit strange but guessed that it was probably her mother. Normally her parents would wake up much later at 8am, when her father goes to work.

When she has finished with her dressing, she went down to kitchen and hoping to wish her a mother a ‘Good Morning’. When she got to the kitchen downstairs, she was puzzled that her mother wasn’t there – in fact, the kitchen was exactly where it was last night no cups, no dishes, no pots have been moved!

As she was late for work, she intended to ask her mother later at later in the evening. During dinner she asked her parents whether anyone was in the kitchen early last morning. Her parents looked at each other and said no!

2nd Ghostly Experience
My aunty and cousin came to our house for a visit. My aunty was in the kitchen and was getting a glass of water. Beside the kitchen there is a small store room, which was partially closed when saw something floating in that room. Being a busybody, she crept to take a closer look – it was a fast-moving white shadowy thingy which disappeared in the air!

SJKT Port Dickson – haunted?

SJKT Port Dickson – haunted?

Is SJKT Port Dickson really haunted or the wild gothic imagination of some school kids?

Port Dickson or simply PD to locals or foreign tourists is a beach and holiday destination situated about about 90 km from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. PD is located in the state of Negeri Sembilan in Peninsular Malaysia. It is only just an hour by car to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Port Dickson along the North-South Expressway.

I have heard of hotels and resorts being haunted but a school is a rare occurrence! (or if you know anything about the supernatural in Port Dickson, please let me know)

A picture of SJKT Port Dickson

There were some talk about SJKT Port Dickson being haunted by some people connected to the school. According to the stories they are visited about strange and spooky apparitions especially in the late evenings. For example, people were to have seen ghostlike apparitions floating in certain classrooms and the toilets. There is even an incident where they saw fiery orbs of light in the school compound.

Kamesh, a former student from SPKT Port Dickson, is positive sure that he has seen an unbelievable  and eerie “object” at school. Kamesh did not believe in ghosts and the supernatural during his time in school, in fact he was a ‘bully’ getting into punchups and fights with the other kids. One day after a football match at the school field, Kamesh and his friend Silva was at the school block having a cigarette. The two them were squatting on the hind legs, happily puffing away, when Kamesh noticed a white cloth-like thing  from the corner of his eye. Silva saw Kamesh looking strangely at something and decided to look in that direction.

Grandma Followed Her Home

Grandma Followed Her Home

A girl experienced a terrible shock when she is followed by her late grandma to her home.

23 year Cynthia Kee lives in Selangor is basically a clubber and party girl. She loves to go nightclubs and bars with her friends at night. She was driving alone one night, after dropping her friend off, when she noticed that the air-condition seen to blowing directly on her. This is slightly strange as she remembered she has turned the air-conditioner blower away from her.

As she was driving and nervously fidgeting with the air-con at the same time when she noticed that somebody was actually blowing at the back of her head. Cynthia rushed home, got out of her car and took off for her house. At the same time, she glanced back at her car and the dark shadowy patch of the old tree beside her vehicle. She could barely see of what look like a lady in an old traditional costume.

When she woke up the next day, she was fine and thinking it was just her wild imagination. After work the next day, Cynthia went out for a friend’s birthday dinner and then went out to a bar to celebrate. She was half drunk and a bit trashed when finally got back to her house that night.

Mat Rempit Ghostly Ride

Mat Rempit Ghostly Ride

A motorcyclist’s encounter with an unexpected encounter with the truly ride.

Nazimi’s work as a dispatch driver for a solicitor company  for the town of Alor Setar in Kedah. Nazimi is a self confessed Mat Rempit where practically every night he takes off on his specially modified bike to perform stunts, showing off (to impress the girls) but basically, I guess, he is simply bored.

One night, a few years ago, after “performing” their tricky stunts on their motorbikes and evading the police, they adjoun to their favourite ‘teh tarik’ stall. Over endless drinks, they will relate tales of their exploits to everybody who will listen. By that time, it was already after 4am before they finally got it a night.

A Pictorial of a Mat Rempit

Nazimi took off on his motorbike speeding away to the road leading to his kampong. There were not many lamp posts and therefore the lights were not really adequate but enough to get by. As he was riding alone on his bike, he was suddenly overtaken by a black colour motorbike..it was a Yamaha 250cc.

Strange Voices in the Radio

Strange Voices in the Radio

One night when a student was studying for an exam, she heard strange and creepy voices from her radio.
Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) the main campus was established in the 1960s to cater for the student education needs (mostly Chinese students) and was named after Tunku Abdul Rahman who was the first Prime Minister of the Malaysia.

The Emblem of TARC (Tunku Abdul Rahman college) in Malaysia

Jane Siow rented a room at an apartment, more correctly a flat, at a nearby residential or housing place in Setapak in the 1990s. Jane was studying for a exam (I think it was a Business Management) course in her room and it about 2.30 am, when she a bit confused about the song that was playing on her Chinese channel on her radio.

A portable AM and FM radio

She could hear a faint buzzing from her radio followed by a slightly louder sound of people talking and laughing. She was not frightened thinking that her radio reception and channel must have gotten to another radio’s reception. While she was fiddling around with the buttons in her portable radio, she was getting more confused as she still hear the voices on her radio and it was in the Malay language superimposed by the Chinese radio program.

Hospital Patient’s Visitor

Hospital Patient’s Visitor

A patient was admitted to a hospital for a few days when she encountered an eerie incident at her ward.
Susanna Yim was treated in the local hospital in Malaysia for severe back pain which was probably caused by a slipped disk. She was subjected to stories about the supernatural and ghosts from her friends and her family members. All she wanted was to get rid of the pain in her back and get back to work and not about ridiculous and nonsensical tales of the paranormal. There was a story about the wards about the existence of voices of dead children hanging around the corridors.

A photo of a Hospital in Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

Susanna was in a joint room with an old woman and has seen a young man and also an older man but she did not talk to them. One night when she woke up, she saw the old man sitting patiently on a chair beside the old woman who was sleeping. The old man looked surprised that Susanna has woken up and he warmly smile at her. Susanna managed to smile back and looking at the old lady lying in bed, asked him how is the old lady doing. The old man then said her wife is doing much better and she is just resting. Susanna also asked about the younger man who was presently not around. The old man smiled that the young man is his son but he is working the night shifts and could not be around. He added that he will look after his wife after his son’s shift. The old man also enquired about Susanna’s condition.

Terrifying Night Drive

Terrifying Night Drive
Colin Mok works in Johor Baru and he just had dinner at a food stall with colleagues in town. It was already 11pm when he left for home to Kempas Baru.

On the highway back from Johor Baru, he was on the fast lane and doing 110 km/hr (he claimed to be on the maximum limit…as usual) in his new Proton Satria when the next car suddenly sped to just his bumper. He was momentarily shocked, thinking he was already at 110 km/hr and wondered how fast does have to go.

Being young and foolish, Colin gunned up the gas and sped his engine until his Satria was 140 km/hr but the other car was still flashing its high beam and still tailgating his car. From the headlights from the other car, Colin was able to see that it was an older car and it was unbelievably close – possibly inches from the back of Colin’s Satria.

A Datsun 120Y

“What the hell!” as a frustrated Colin muttered, as he gave the signal that he was turning left to let the other pass it by. When he has driven to the slow lane, he absolutely shock to find that the other car was still right behind him!

Shy and Mysterious Spirit

Shy and Mysterious Spirit
Nancy lives in Sandakan with her family and she really believes that her house is actually haunted.
The city of Sandakan is the second largest city in Sabah, Malaysia. Sandakan was the former capital of the British North Borneo during the British colonial era. After the second WWII, Sandakan shifted to Kota Kinabalu as the capital of the state. It was also well-known for the notorious killing of innocent people during the Japanese occupation during WWII.

Map of Sabah

11 year old, Nancy lived with her parents in Sandakan with her youngest sister, Rudy, in a rented house.
Nancy must have heard a million times, as her mother said wearily to 6 year old Rudy, “Why you so naughty?” To Nancy thinking, Rudy was a real pain in the ass – always mischievous, naughty and she will bug out everyone, especially Nancy.

Anyway, Nancy was in her room (which she shares with Rudy) playing her computer game when she notice someone looking behind her back. She groaned as she thought it must be Rudy as she yell, “Ooui! what you want?” After a few minutes, Nancy finally turned her head to look behind her…but Rudy was not around.
It was a bit strange and after a while Nancy got off a chair and went to look for her sister. When she found Rudy alone in her parents’ room, Rudy was happily asleep with her thumb in her mouth. Nancy found it a bit odd as she was sure she saw someone beside her in their room.

Cendol Seller during Hungry Ghost Month

Cendol Seller during Hungry Ghost Month

A Cendo street seller on Hungry Ghost Month meets an unforgettable and frightening encounter with a ghost.
Kalimuthu is  Cendol street vendor for over 25 years and he travels to different places in Butterworth in Penang where he sells to his take-away customers. Kalimuthu makes cendol strips by personally by hand (actually by his wife… ha!ha!) and together with the red beans, sweet corn, shaved iced and of course with ‘gula melaka’(yeah!), it provides a unique flavor to the cendol which he sells to his customers.

A Bowl of Cendol

On that particular evening, he was in a field around Assumption school where some school boys had finished with the football game and after the game, some of them had gather to drink from his stall. They were gathered drinking, chatting busily about the game and it was getting late when they left.

Kalimuthu was gathering the used plastic bowls and spoons when he noticed a small boy (around 7 to 8 years old) standing faced to the back of Kalimuthu. The other boys who were drinking were around 14 to 15 years and this boy was much younger. Thinking it must be a younger brother to one of the boys, he asked “Are you done?” while clearing the used bowls and spoons.

Motorcyclist, Girlfriend & “Ponti”

Motorcyclist, Girlfriend & “Ponti”

A motorcyclist and his girlfriend were riding after a date before meeting with a Pontianak!
Dereck Chui went to a cinema in town with his girlfriend, Linda, before adjourning to their favourite hawker stalls in Temiang Jaya, Seremban. After their meal, Linda wanted to bring porridge for supper to her father, mother, sisters and brothers (not cheap to pay for everybody’s food but it is expected - hee hee!).

At a Hawker Stall – porridge

Dereck and Linda packed the front carriage and fastened the bags of porridge in his motorbike, a Honda Cub. After that, he together with Linda, riding at the off his motorcycle, rode off. As the night was dark and a bit chilly, Linda had wrapped herself in a sweater for the journey.

A Honda Cub with a Front Carriage

Linda house was located at a slightly elevated locations and Dereck found his motorcycle slowing down drastically. He was wondering why was that, either the motorcycle was underpowered, or maybe the bags of porridge was too heavy or maybe Linda suddenly put on weight (ha! ha!  joking-lah about reason 3). He casually glanced at his rear mirror and …bulu sudah naik…he saw a woman sitting beside Linda! The woman was dressed in white blouse and had long thick fuzzy hair and she was smiling at him…and it seemed that Linda was unaware of the strange woman sitting beside her! Oh God! He was absolutely scared to death.

Roti Man’s Spooky Encounter

Roti Man’s Spooky Encounter
A spooky experience by a Roti Man’s while working on his round.

I remember the by-gone days where the Roti Man comes selling his wares in an old bicycle. His loaves of bread, buns and “kuih-kuih” (Malaysian cakes) will be filled till over-flowing and stacked over his bicycle. Housewives will gather their bread with their 555 book (credit) and children will gather to buy tid-bits of all kinds. Also the “tikam” games of the spin the wheels or the pull type – no wonder the adults are addicted to gambling especially the Chinese.

Photo of a Roti Man in Malaysia

Marimuthu was furiously pedaling to a place between a residential cum illegal factory lot and he was running late. It was late in the evening and it was getting dark but there was still some light. He had to stop when he realize that the chain have come loose or unstuck between his bicycle pedal. He parked at the roadside while trying to fix the problem with his chain and pedal when he noticed that he was opposite an old plastic factory. Beside the factory between the ‘lalang’ was a young woman (could not see the features because it was dark) who seem to be waiting for somebody. He did not take any interest as he tried to fix the chain on his bicycle.

Ghost in Gurney Hotel Penang

Ghost in Gurney Hotel Penang
A foreign tourists visit the hotel where they find strange and unexplainable things in their room.

A good friend of mine, Nigel and Martha, recently met up with me in Kuala Lumpur before leaving for Penang. They book a suite at the Gurney Hotel in Penang, the room was spacious and nice but the support staffs were inefficient and unfriendly.

Gurney Hotel in Penang

Nigel and Martha planned to spend several days there before flying off to Pulau Langawi. During the trip in Penang, they plan to spend some time in Gurney Drive, the Botanical Garden, Penang Hill and the famous Kek Lok Si temple.

A Hawker stall in Gurney Drive

The first night in the hotel, everything was fine, except the neighbouring rooms were filled with kids’ playing and laughter. Nigel was annoyed that the parents’ seem to let the kids (probably spoilt and pampered) make so much noise without caring about their neighbours. Martha reasoned that they kids were probably off for their school holidays. Nigel did not want to spoilt their time in Penang and did not say further.

A Young Teacher’s Mysterious Visitor

A Young Teacher’s Mysterious Visitor
A young teacher at a missionary school meets a really eerie and unexpected visitor.
Miss Chuah was just started as a teacher in a missionary school in the 1970s in Perak.  It has been just a couple of weeks she started working as a teacher and she wanted so much to do everything right.

A Typical Missionary School in Malaysia

She was in the afternoon session and after work, she went into the teachers’ room to do some work for the next day. When she was done, she looked about the teachers’ room and she realized that it was quiet dark. She was about to switch the lights off when she notice a blurry image dressed in white in the corner of the room. Thinking it must be a nun in their nun’s white habit (white clothes-uniform), she felt somewhat award and shy but she nonetheless hurriedly went to greet her.

Ghostly Crying Lady

GhostlyCrying Lady
A bitter and sad tale about the ghostly entity in Peggy’s house.
Peggy Ng goes to local College in Kuala Lumpur and she lives with her parents and her younger sister. One night, her parents went for out for some dinner function and she was watching a TV program, “Ghost Whisperer” with her younger sister. The door bell rang and reluctantly Peggy decided to open the front door since her sister was so engrossed with the show. The dim illumination from the porch light showed there was nobody there. “Ehh? What is going on?” as Peggy wondered out loud. Then a gust of cold air blew from the lane into their porch, Peggy shivered and angry at the same time thinking it must be the neighbor kids playing with their door bell.
The TV show was almost over, when the two of them heard somebody singing. It was an old traditional Chinese love song and it sounded that it was coming from their own house. Peggy and her sister looked with a puzzled faces, Peggy’s sister commented, “It can’t be the neighbours” (their neighbour’s family were Indians). Peggy nonchalantly shrugged but did not give further thought to it.
A couple of weeks later at +2am when Peggy was studying for examinations, she went down stairs to the kitchen for a drink. She heard a whimpering sound as if someone was crying from the toilet next to the kitchen. Looking through the empty toilet door she was shocked to see a shadowy apparition of a woman who was squatting and crying. Astounded she quickly grabbed her fingers into her mouth, to stop herself from making any sound. Then she finally crept to her bedroom up stairs!
When Peggy was with her mother at a shopping mall they accidentally met a neighbor auntie, she said that a woman and her husband used to stay at that house. The husband left with other woman and the wife was so distraught and heartbroken that she took her life. The dead woman was found in the toilet beside the kitchen!
As Peggy and her family were Christians, they brought in a pastor to bless the entire house. The house at the moment seemed fine except that once in a while, late at night, they can still hear a woman crying.
