The Abandoned Neighbourhood’s House

The Abandoned Neighbourhood’s House
“…while walking late at night, she heard her woman wailing from an abandoned house…”

Rita stays at the relatively tranquil town Bentong in the state of Pahang. Rita spends the weekend “crashing” at Cindy (and her family) house which is located in a quiet residential suburb of Bentong.

Map of Bentong in Pahang (Google Map)

After dinner, they had arranged with their friends at a nearby Starbuck coffee outlet where they chit-chat the latest happenings among themselves. It was past 12am when Rita and Cindy were walking back to Cindy’s house in a residential housing estate.

Cindy was walking slightly behind Rita and Cindy was busy chatting with her boyfriend on her mobile phone, when Rita noticed a woman was wailing and sobbing. In the badly lit environment of the neighborhood she realized that it was coming from an abandoned house which was covered with overgrown grass and weeds.

By that time, Cindy who was busy yapping happily on her phone had walked past Rita, who was curious wondering who could it be, crying so loudly in the middle of the night. She was looking at the abandoned house, when out of her corner of her eye, she saw a flash of white apparition in the “living room” of the abandoned house!

Ghost in My Bed!

Ghost in My Bed!

“There was a ghostly figure of a woman lying beside my bed!”

I ran into an old friend, Rusdi, and his wife and they insisted that I must spend some time in their house. As we were bust chit-chatting about the old times how we were mesmerized about the old movies during the 1970s like “Pontianak”, “Orang Minyak” etc by the late P. Ramli.

Noraini, Rusdi’s wife, casually mentioned that she has seen a ghost. Reluctant at first to talk about the incident, she finally gave in to our constant begging. It happened when she was a girl of 8 years old and her uncle, aunty, her cousins were going to Kuala Pilah in the state of Negeri Sembilan.

Norini pleaded and begged her parents for permission to go with her with them and eventually she finally won (as usual!) They packed her uncle’s old van and they drove to the rest house in Kuala Pilah.

Photo of Bedding Arrangement (www.flipkey.com)

Noraini together with her cousin, Sophie, had the double-bed while Sophie’s older sister, Nisha, had the single bed. That night while sleeping, Noraini groggily woke up and saw Nisha asleep in the single bed. As she turn to look at Sophie just beside her….she was speechless…there was a frizzy haired woman lying on her back in their bed!

Apparitions From The Underworld

Apparitions From The Underworld

When Anna Ching was a teenager, she and her mother visited her aunty and her family at Jerantut in Pahang. Anna’s aunty has been hospitalized and they have to bring food for her everyday. She and her mom also had take care of her young cousins and her uncle in their house.

Jerantut in Pahang

After spending almost the whole day visiting her aunty in the hospital they went home, where Anna’s mother cooked for her young cousins and her uncle. After dinner, her mother asked Anna to feed the family black mongrel dog, named Trotter.

It was a moonless night with little light from the lamp posts as Anna walked to the little garden at the front house. Trotter was not at front garden when she heard the mongrel at the fence of the garden whining. Trotter’s face was looking outwards and whining but Anna cannot see anything….the road by the terrace houses was covered with bushes and trees beside the lane…nothing…nada!  There was no one around.

Anna rubbed her eyes with her hands in an attempt to see better…but there were nobody around..except for the dog's whining, she noticed a small shrine around the bushes and the trees but there were no offerings like joss sticks or local fruits. She remembered that her aunt used to do the rituals and the offerings before she was hospitalized. She did not give it further thought to it but went back to the house to play with her cousins.

Deceased Colleagues

Deceased Colleagues

Almost everybody has come across deceased colleagues particularly that have passed away unexpectedly. I have 2 different but similar stories about really weird and strange incident that these people have personally come acrossed.

This was told by Janice Foo which was the Office Manager of a large company in Malaysia. Min Ling was an officer when she was knocked by a bus and killed on the way back from her work. Janice described Min Ling as a kind of ‘mousey’ girl, quiet and shy but she was extremely dedicated in her work.

A few days after the fatal accident, the security guards at Janice’s office found a strange apparition lurking dressed in a white gown late at night. According to the security guards her face could not be seen as her left face seemed to be partially crushed and bloodied. Before the guards could do anything the lurking apparition suddenly vanished!

During Min Ling’s funeral, some family members had requested a “closed coffin” as Min Ling’s face was badly crushed by the bus. As some of Min Ling’s colleagues were excitably talking and speculating what security guards saw that night .….one of the girls noticed that Min Ling’s computer have been switched on! They were shocked as Min Ling’s workstation has been closed as the management had not found a new replacement yet for Min Ling. In fact some girls have complained about working more hours as they have to take over from Min Ling’s unfinished work.

Ghostly Passenger at Labis-Segamat Trunk Road

Ghostly Passenger at Labis-Segamat Trunk Road

A brother and his sister were driving at Labis-Segamat trunk road where they encountered an unexpected and unwelcomed ghostly passenger.

Iskandar and Noor had droved their mother to a nearby town of Labis for a few days. Their mother and the rest of the aunties (mak ciks) were going to prepare a fabulous dinner (“makan beradab”) for her nephew’s wedding.

When they arrived they were asked the usual questions by the aunties like, “why you so thin?” or “when are you getting married?” Finally excusing themselves from the aunties, they hurried away saying that it is almost night time and they have to drive home to their house in Johor Baru.

On the way back, the trunk road was cold and completely dark as they were on the Labis-Segamat road when they saw from the beam of light from their car they saw something flashing in front of their car. It flashed like a blinding bluish light and it moved with incredible speed (whossh!) and it disappeared in the darkness. Noor asked whether Iskandar whether he saw the ball of light but he saw with a split second he merely said that it was nothing, so as not to frighten his sister over a silly imagination.

At the same time they smell a strong fragrance in Iskandar’s car, a sweet and almost delicate feminine aroma around the car. A car with the beam light was coming in the opposite direction and the lights flooded into their car. Noor tried to avoid the glare as she turned away she look at the rear mirror....there was a figure sitting at the bonnet of Iskandar’s car. Shock and stunned Noor was going to mentioned to her brother but a second car came from the opposing direction with the beam of light flooded the interior of their car.

Scary Movement of Lifeless Objects

Scary Movement of Lifeless Objects

Two tales of scary movements of lifeless or common everyday objects like tables, stools, marbles or mobile phones but today specifically were about chairs.

The first incident was related by Mohd  Ali who was staying at that time in a hostel for students at a local college. There are 2 blocks one for male and female students staying at the hostel. Mohd Ali said that the girls were spooked especially when one student of the two female students goes back to their “kampung” (hometown). They are two students in a room. Of course, he said that the students (especially the females) are welcome to stay in his room – hardy har har!

Anyway, Roshmah was left alone in left alone one night as her roommate had to go back for a wedding at her home town. When she was sleeping she heard a long series of loud scratching sound in her room. She got up sleepily and saw a plastic chair was directly facing her bed just beside her. She was slightly puzzled as she did not remember putting the chair there, especially facing her bed. She got up and moved the chair behind her study table and promptly felt asleep again.

A Plastic Chair

Rosmah woke again after several hours again with the loud sound of someone moving things in her room. She was sleeping facing the wall when she quickly turned directly to face the direction of the study table. Adieu! the plastic chair has moved directly at her bed and once again is facing her! As if something was watching her sleeping. She rushed off, without even taking her blanket, to her friends’ room in that same hostel.

Ghosts, Hantus & Djinns

Ghosts, Hantus & Djinns

There are countless of ordinary people in their everyday lives who have encountered paranormal or supernatural incidents whether they are called ghosts, hantus or djinns. People who have the “3rd eyes” (ying yang eyes) who have the ability and can sense the presence of the spirits around them or can even see the afterlife or the undead.  From the numerous haunting of buildings (government buildings, schools and houses) to the shrieking howls of Pontianak at nights and the unexplained and frightening incidents of Genting – do they exist?

Hantu Pucong

The first incident involved the mysterious and the existence of a “doppelganger”. Kang came to the office very early at 5.10am as he had to submit a report to his boss. He walk to his office and turned the lights on and he was surprised to see his colleague, Jageet Singh, at his cubicle at the building. Kang thought that Jageet must be having problems with his house as he was staring at the wall on his chair, seeming lost in thoughts.

Kang was too busy as he got into his assignment for his boss. He got most of his work done and he felt hungry and decided to go for his breakfast at a coffee shop before 8am where everybody starts work. As he was rushing for the elevator, he looked at Jageet at his chair and he decided leave him alone.
Half way eating his ‘roti kosong’ he was surprised to find Jageet happily rushing to work. Kang waved at Jageet to join him and said, “Working so early, having problems with your wife again?” Jageet looked puzzled and said “Huh?... what are you talking about?..I just got in”.

Part-Time Ghost Hunters

Part-Time Ghost Hunters

A young couple explains why they are so fascinated with ghost hunting.

An old friend used to tell me that, “Easy to invite these ‘beings’ but so difficult to send them away”. I think what he means it that we should never intentionally or deliberately mess with the paranormal beings. Instead we should avoid as much as we can these ‘beings’.

However, I guess some younger people are attracted to the existence or the mysteries of the realm of the afterlife. In fact, they will even the purchase the equipments to specially search for the supernatural.

Equipment for Ghost Hunting

I accidentally met with Polly and Benjamin when I was waiting (patiently…argh!) for my wife at a shopping mall. Polly Teoh and Benjamin Liew are good friends with Tommie, who is my neighbours’ son. I wrote a short article about Ghost Hunting in my earlier blog.

Poly and Benjamin joined me for a drink and we talked about the latest day to day stuff. I asked them why were they so interested about Ghost Hunting – I would jokingly refer to them as Part-Time Ghost Hunters.

Polly explained that when she was studying in Convent Sentul, she was with another girl in class. From the corner of her eyes, she noticed something whitish flashing across in front of her. She was absolutely scared and horrified then the other student started crying uncontrollably. The other girl looks like as if she was possessed and kept crying. After that incident, her Malay teacher told her that the girl was possessed by a spirit. Ever since that day, Polly was obsessed with the existence of the paranormal or supernatural.

However Polly have not encountered any spooky or weird incidents except for one particular episode. This was a couple of years ago, when a group of them met one night, to look for a haunted bungalow in Puchong.

Terrifying Vision at Budget Hotel

Terrifying Vision at Budget Hotel

A young man spends a terrifying night at a budget hotel.

Adnan stays at a flat with his family in state of Terengganu in Malaysia. He works as a Marketing Executive at a Batik factory where colourful and motifs are done by hand. At 25 years old, Adnan spends his spare time (if not with his family) then with his buddies at a coffee shop.  He and his friends would chat about anything, especially about sports (football foremost), girls and of course, cerita hantu (ghost stories).

Unfortunately Adnan did not too much experience with his personal life. One time when he was sleeping (his bedroom is just beside the corridor to the flat) late at night where there was barely a sound, he heard a girl voice from his corridor – the girl was busy yapping but not loud enough to hear the words. The strange thing, he could hear voice only her voice as if she was talking to herself.

In another incident, Adnan was lying in bed, rolling in bed, trying desperately to sleep. When he heard the sound of playing marbles….sounds like in the common staircase between the blocks of flats. Tok! Tok! Tok!....the constant distinct unmistakable clicking sound of glass marbles. At 3 am?...Adnan was too frightened to find out, he covered his head and body completely with his blanket and did not wake up until the morning.

One day, Adnan had to rushed to Alor Setar in Kedah as he was running late to drop of batik samples to a new client. By the time he finally the place, it was already dark. As he was too dark to drive back home, he decided stay in a budget hotel before driving back home the next morning.

Pulau Redang is the largest of the 9 islands in Terengganu off the east coast of Malaysia. It is also accessible car and sea (fishing village of Merang) or air. It is well known for the sandy white beaches and crystal clear water for local and foreign tourists.

Overall Map of Pulau Redang

Halim and Zaleza were taking their 4 year daughter, Shila, together with their Indonesia maid on a trip to Pulau Redang for a vacation. After the day’s event at the beach, Halim was checking in he his laptop for the latest news while Zaleza was choosing their daughter’s clothes. Meanwhile, their maid, Nina, were preparing some food while little Shila were sitting in the living room engrossed with her toys.

View Of Pulau Redang

Their maid, Mina, walked into the room when little Shila said in her ‘manja’ (spoilt) voice, “Shila tak mahu main dengan budak nakal lagi” (translation : don’t want to play with naughty child). Halim and Zaleza looked at each other in amusement and Zaleza said she in a stern voice that she  will look after her toys and won’t let the ‘budak nakal’ play with her stuff. Mina looked surprise but she hurriedly took Shila for her shower.

Rural School in Sarawak

Rural School in Sarawak

A rural school in Sarawak gets a nasty shock where they witnessed a flying apparition.

Asyraf tells me of his many happy years during his childhood in Sarawak (the “land of the hornbills”) in the island of Borneo. However he said that Sarawak can sometimes be mysterious and eerie especially in the rural areas.

Asyraf lives with his siblings and his parents in rural area of that state where his father works as a technician for electrical appliances and his mother works as a Government teacher. This is a tale about his mother who was a teacher in the rural school.

On that morning, his mother was walking to her classroom when she noticed that one the female student was busy talking with a group of friends to a  “new student” dressed in a tudung (translation: a scarf worn on the head of a female).

Childhood Doll

Childhood Doll

A young lady brings back her childhood doll to her house but encounters unexpected and terrifying results.

This is a scary tale shared by Lionel Tay, a trading stock broker, as things are extremely slow at work as everybody is waiting for the general elections. He got into and is a computer games “addict” to pass the time. This tale was concerning his wife Yen Ling where they lived in Puchong in Selangor. Yen Ling’s maternal grandma (“por por” in Cantonese) passed away and they attended her funeral in Raub in the state of Pahang. After the funeral, Yen Ling she absolutely surprised when she found her long lost childhood doll where she lived at her grandma’s house many years ago. She decided to keep as a memento of her previous life at her grandma’s place and put the doll in her house in Puchong.

Her Favourite Doll

After the funeral at Raub, Pahang they went back to their house where Yen Ling placed the doll amongst the knick-knacks which was placed on a side table in their bedroom. Several months are that, Yen Ling began to noticed that there were soft but strange sounds in their house. She mentioned to her husband but they decided it was nothing but only sound from everyday life.

One night after dinner, Lionel was toying with Facebook on his laptop and Yen Ling was bringing a plate of cut fruits to her husband…..she was absolutely shocked stumbled and the plate of fruits came crashing down on the floor as she struggled vainly to get up to  her feet. Lionel swiftly went to help his wife and asked what is wrong. Yen Ling can only managed to look up at the laptop….

When Lionel finally managed to calm Yen Ling down, she said she saw the reflection of her doll with Lionel’s head beside the doll in the laptop! Looked up at the table with the laptop but he saw nothing was there. However Lionel believes that something weird is going on.

Red Box Karaoke – Another Strange Incident

Red Box Karaoke – Another Strange Incident

A couple of technicians were called to a Red Box Karaoke to fix the audio and visual equipment when they met up with a disturbing and unexplained encounter.

View of Red Box Karaoke

Kevyn Goh and Mohan were instructed to a Red Box Karaoke in town to fix a problem in one of their Karaoke rooms. Then were met by Mr. Chin who was the manager of the karaoke and told them of the problems with the wiring in that room. Mr Chin was late for a management meeting and they were short of staff, Kevin and Mohan had to on their own.

One of the Karaoke room

The lights were dimmed when they got to the Karaoke room and went to work. Kevyn noticed a woman sitting in the dark, at the back of the couch, and thinking it must be one of the karaoke’s staff. Kevyn immediately said “hullo, you must be Mr. Chin’s staff”. The woman or girl  (it was too dark to notice) did not reply but sat silently on the sofa.

3 Bed, 2 Bath and a Ghost

3 Bed, 2 Bath and a Ghost

A lady found that her recent purchased house is plagued by paranormal activities.

I found out that selling my old house is not so easy as people (especially Chinese) as people are influenced by so many superstitions (‘patang’) and beliefs. For example, across my house is a small TNB (electricity) substation which some people considered as not desirable. I have heard that high voltage pylons are a taboo (a strict ‘no go’) as electromagnetic fields will make the spirits more energetic as they need to manipulate their surroundings.  However for a small TNB substation is too much but maybe its the surroundings that make it so hauntingly creepy.

A Typical Haunted House in Malaysia

This is a true account of Gail Soh who recently bought a 3 bed/2 bath house in Cheras in Kuala Lumpur. She bought it with a 20 per cent off compared to other existing houses in the area. Her property agent told her about the previous tenants were desperate to get rid of the house and there rumours about it being haunted. Gail was not bothered it about and considered it as foolish stories made by people who were did not know better.

Shortly after Gail moved in, there were numerous strange and unexplained incidents that occurred at that house. She would be asleep and nightmares (about her dead relatives), sleep paralysis , feeling of sadness and deep depression would happen almost every night.
There were times when the volume of her TV was turn to either high or low or the channels were changed or flipped continuously. The lights in her bathroom were turn or off and even the taps in the kitchen were also turned on. When she was in the living room watching TV, she could clearly here footsteps in the bedrooms where no-body was around.

An Eerie Surprised Guest

An Eerie Surprised Guest
A group of friends out for the night meets up with an unexpected guest.

Dave, Philip and Sammi Teng were working for pool renovators and they spent their weekends clubbing and bar hopping. It was 9pm and they have arrived in residential double-storey house in Taman Megah to pick up Vincent for the night out.

Sammi Teng got out the car and she busy screaming and shouting for Vincent to come out. Dave and Phillip quickly got out and tried to get Sammi to keep it down as it was already dark and people should be around. They look into the upper floor window, where there was an older “uncle” who stood looking at them. Sammi argued that the older man was only staring at them but was not doing anything.

A Figure of a Man at the Front Window on the Double-Story House

As Sammi was busying arguing, a groggy Vincent opened the main door and he said he was not feeling well. They looked at Vincent, with his water eyes, running nose and his coughing they decided that he better get some rest.

When they were driving to the bars, Dave and Phillip noticed that Sammi who was sitting in the back seat was abnormally quiet (as she was extremely talkative). Phillip turned to look at the back seat where was surprised to find Sammi tucked and bent over her lap. Phillip excitably then asked Sammi what is wrong, is everybody going bonkers…is she sick. Sammi was shivering very badly with her head tucked in her lap managed to answer, “just please drive”.

A Photo of Kayangan Apartment at Genting Highlands

This encounter was told by Ivan, who went with his girlfriend, Melissa, a few years ago during their trip to Kayangan Apartment at Genting Highlands. During that particular incident, both Ivan and Melissa checked in the apartment and went out for a very quick meal. Then they rushed off to the casino -Yipee! (insane laughter and happiness)

After more than 6 hours, after losing a bit of money then finally to go back to their apartment. After a quick shower both the couple went to bed. Ivan was having his beauty sleep when he felt an iron-grip on his poor arm. It was his girlfriend Melissa who was gripping his arm she was terrified and whispered to Ivan, “There is somebody there!” Although feeling foggy and the pain in his arm from Melissa’s vice-like grip, he yelped “What the f@#*&!” he managed to fumble and switch on the night lamp in their bed.

At the bottom of the flat she pressed the bottom of the lift and looked and she looked at the gloomy environment. She looked at the old Indian lady who was busily looking at the board which showed the messages, the ads, for sale etc. at the lift. She was admiring the old lady’s beautiful maroon (dark and rich red colour) saree when she noticed the “on” button for the lift. Yvonne politely said, “Are you coming?” as she gestured to the lift. The old lady, seem surprised by Yvonne’s invitation but she just smile and shook her head.
